End-to-end design of a clinical trial health tracking App.

Umotif is a heathcare start-up that tracks patients symptoms during clinical trials. I was brought onboard to define the end-to-end App experience, working closely with the founder, head of product and tech leads.

Patients were currently having to fill out lengthy forms online that documented their symptoms, they became frustrated and quite often they weren’t completing the forms correctly. The project goal was to condense these forms into a more concise, simple experience.

We started by setting up several workshop sessions with the product and tech teams to define the end-to-end journey, ensuring this aligned with user and business goals while considering any tech limitations.

Using the master flow as a guide I then split the journey into wireframe screen flows. Again reviewing these with the product and tech teams.

There was no current design system other than some very basic brand guidelines and colours, using these I developed the full component library and designed screens.

Throughout the project I implemented several user tests alongside the design process to validate we were solving the key user problems and to ensure the business goals were being met.

Project Outcome

In 4 months we delivered the full end-to-end App MVP. Having deployed its software in over 30 countries globally including China and Japan, the uMotif platform powers all study designs, in all research settings. In an immunology study, uMotif’s software engaged and retained participants so effectively, that the data capture timelines were reduced by 33%, generating new insights faster.
