Improving product page discoverability and UX.

Gumtree were going through a large transformation of their UX and branding, I was brought onboard to improve the overall experience of the product pages within the Gumtree website and App.

I started the research phase by collating all the data that was available, customer service feedback, previous user interviews and began by mapping out the current user journey.

I conducted my own heuristic analysis on the product page search and discovery journey, setting up several review sessions throughout to go through my findings with the product and design teams.

I then reviewed some direct and non-direct competitors to identify any features and patterns we could consider when working through the new designs.

Using all the findings that came out of my research I set up a workshop with the team. The aim was to pull out the key features and changes that offered the most impact and would also work in the product & build timeframe.

Using the key takeaways from the research and workshops I began working through some lo-fi wireframes, having review sessions with the team as I refined the overall page layout.

The wireframes were then moved into design. I explored several variations, considering business constraints such as advertising positions and potential build time of certain designs.

We conducted several user testing sessions throughout the design process, from full flow prototype click throughs to some quick preference tests.

I presented two options for the final designs, one which removed the cards and made all content full-width and one that used the current card components. The full-width option would require more build time but was the preferred option.

Project Outcome

Following another round of user tests the final flows were moved into the redesign backlog and prepared for engineering. Customer feedback on the new product page was positive and analytics saw a 30% increase in follow through of sales in the first month post launch.
